“The life of a monk ought to be a continuous Lent. Since few, however, have the strength for this,
we urge the entire community during these days of Lent to keep its manner of life most pure
and to wash away in this holy season the negligence of other times.”
– The Rule of Saint Benedict
Lent is a special time in the liturgical year, a time for reflection, renewal, devotion to prayer and the anticipation of the sorrows of Holy Week and the triumph of Easter. During this time it is traditional for Christians to, by some token, follow Christ into the desert. The gospels tell us that Jesus fasted for forty days in the wilderness, and many Christians chose to give up certain foods or activities and use the time or money they save to spend with God in prayer or give to those in need.
This devotional is designed as an aid to your spiritual journey through Lent. It is an invitation to journey through the gospel of John and to invite the Holy Spirit to reveal to us fresh truths that will nourish our souls.
