  Throughout history Christians have developed spiritual practices to help them listen more closely to the voice of God in their lives. Retreat is only one of these.
  
  Here you can find introductions to other spiritual practices which often find their roots in monasticism. A Rule of Life helps structure our days with intention, while Sabbath invites us to pause and rest in God’s presence. Lectio Divina encourages a prayerful, transformative engagement with Scripture. The Examen offers a way to reflect on God’s presence throughout our day, and Compline, the final prayer of the day, brings peace and rest as we entrust ourselves to God.

  The liturgical or Church year is divided into seven seasons. It begins with Advent, which lasts for four weeks and looks forward to the season of Christmas.
  
  After the twelve days of Christmas, the visit of the wise men to Jesus is remembered at Epiphany, after which there is a short period of Ordinary time. The six weeks of Lent prepare us for Easter, which celebrates Jesus’ resurrection from the dead, leading forward to his Ascension and the gift of the Holy Spirit to the Church at Pentecost. Ordinary time then resumes until the end of the year.

We’ve known for a long time that the body listens to the brain. Now we know what ancient spiritual practices intuited: that the brain listens to the body.

We will explore the intimate relationship between the body and the brain by learning why body-based practices work and how different styles of meditation impact our well-being. And we’ll experience a variety of ways to honour and care for our whole selves.

You will acquire skills during this week which have wide-ranging implications for our relationships and for our ability to be present to ourselves, God and the world.

Celebrate the Easter Triduum at Worth Abbey. Be in fellowship with others as we follow the powerful liturgy of the Triduum and allow ourselves to be formed by it.

Explore the mysteries at the core of our faith: The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Although separate, this group will form part of the bigger Worth Community which includes the local parish and a Young Adults’ Easter Triduum retreat that will be staying in Worth School.

Retreat Dynamics:
All our retreats are run along Benedictine principles with a balance between: prayer and work, silence and talking, and being alone and being in community. To do this we use the monastic rhythm of the day defined by the structure of the monastic services, along with the regular meal-times this establishes a balanced and healthy environment from which good reflection and discernment can happen.

When we take wrath and sacrifice out of the picture, how do we see Easter?

The story of Jesus’ death on the cross is central to Christianity but, for many, the traditional interpretation of the sacrifice and bodily resurrection of Jesus have become stumbling blocks. In this journey through the events of Holy Week we will explore together the power of those events through a different lens.

This is a journey – through led conversations and creative arts. We will reflect on different perspectives of why Jesus died, and the transformational possibilities of resurrection in our lives and in the world today. Worship will be intrinsic to our shared experience.

There will be programme for children and young people too and times for all to come together and share.

As we journey through Holy Week, this silent retreat offers a time of deeper listening to God who is present in our daily living and experiences. There will be times of community prayer. A trained spiritual director will be available for daily individual meetings to accompany you through the retreat.

Arrive in time for supper at 6pm and depart by 3pm on Thursday.
