Stanbrook Abbey

Rooted in the ancient monastic tradition and transplanted to this stunning location, the Stanbrook Community invites you to join us in creating a new setting for our journey together into God’s eternal beauty. In these pages we wish to share  something of the wonder of creation in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and to make available some of the riches our Christian monastic heritage.

RETREATS AND QUIET DAYS

Until our guest house is built, our facilities are limited, but we warmly welcome individuals and/or groups to what we have.

We offer quiet days to individuals or groups with the possibility of attending Mass and the Divine Office with the community.

Members of the community are available to give talks to groups, or spiritual direction, or simply a listening ear to individuals.

At this stage we are, sadly, unable to provide lunch but hot drinks may be made in the Guest Kitchen to accompany packed lunches.

Stanbrook Abbey Bookshop, open almost every day, sells an interesting selection of books and a variety of crafts produced at the monastery: cards, home-woven goods our home-confected chocolate and knitted items.

On a good day, it is possible to enjoy our stunning view from one of the benches provided or to walk in the forest only yards from the monastery.

CRIEF LODGES

The nine Scandinavian pine holiday lodges in our grounds are run by the community as a business. However, people have found the tranquil location and proximity to the monastery helpful for making retreats, and you may wish to explore that possibility until the new retreat facilities are built.
