Are you thirsty?
In my years as a church leader I found that the Holy Spirit was often the person of the trinity who people found the hardest to understand and relate to. I found that some loving, committed and faithful Christians had even become fearful of the Holy Spirit and his work and ministry in our lives.
Yet surely having a desire for a deeper and closer relationship with God must rise above even our deepest fears.
The truth is without the Holy Spirit we would be nowhere in our relationship with God.
So let’s ask. How thirsty are you for the Holy Spirit?
Maybe we are willing to acknowledge that we are hungry and thirsty to know more of the reality of the presence of God in our lives but are not sure how are spiritual thirst can be quenched. These reflections over the next few weeks will help us in our quest for that quenching of our thirst.
If we are not satisfied with what we have now, and at the same time want to change at least our part of the world for Jesus, then maybe we are ready to push the boat out into unchartered waters and trust that there we shall find God in new and exciting ways. We surely do not want to just continue to drift along in our own strength and energies.
Do we not desire a deeper reality of God and of the Holy Spirit in our daily life?
Jesus said
“If anyone is thirsty let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me as the scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him. By this he meant the Spirit….”
John 7:37-38
If you are limping along in your Christian life, or its going through a lull of dissatisfaction, maybe the Holy Spirit is starting to create in you a thirst to be filled with God. The Lord wants you to come and drink today. He wants you to receive a deeper reality of the Holy Spirit working in your life. A new journey begins for you right here.
ASK:
Ask the Lord today to give you a thirst for him and then to quench that thirst.
