What is a Retreat?

The purpose of a retreat is to help individuals deepen their relationship with God, disconnect from the distractions of everyday life, and focus on spiritual renewal.
It usually involves withdrawing from the normal activities of life to enter into a time of quiet and prayer, often in a setting like a monastery, convent, or retreat center. Here at our website you can find all the information you need to attend a monastic retreat for yourself. May whatever you find here be a blessing to you.

In this week’s episode Chris Whittington from the School of Contemplative Life shares a wonderful reflection entitled ‘The Abbot, the Monk and the Book’.

What happens when we stop judging ourselves and others, and begin to offer true compassion? How might our relationships—and our own inner life—change if we lived from that place of love?
Drawing on the teachings of Jesus, the radical insights of Julian of Norwich, and lived experiences from the School of Contemplative Life’s meditation community, he reflects on how learning to be compassionate with ourselves is the first step toward healing, growth, and loving others more deeply.
